Last Day at PetSmart...

So I'm really excited that I'm a senior lab tech, but I'm a little sad that I'm leaving PetSmart still... :(
It has been a REALLY amazing job and the people were awesome...but I guess now it's time to start growing up and moving onto bigger and better things to help me get to my dream life! :)

I know Buddy will miss it too, but we'll definitely be visiting there A LOT!

As far as this weekend went, it was busy but fun!

I was able to fit in a Jillian Michael's workout yesterday and I'm hoping to fit in some yoga later :)

Gonna get fit for the DBF Dream Big 5k!!!

Dawn Brancheau: Never Forgotten

Two years ago on this date I was preparing for my phone interview with the Navy's Marine Mammal Program, I was so excited and nervous! While I was waiting for my phone to ring, I received a Facebook message from my friend, Maria, who is as obsessed with dolphins and SeaWorld as I am haha.

Unfortunately, she told me to turn on the news because there had been an accident at Shamu Stadium...they hadn't released any names, and it had only been a few months since I completed my internship there. A few minutes later I received my phone call and interview, which later got me the internship with the Navy.

Working at Shamu Stadium, doing the internship, seeing the trainers and Dawn performing with the whales was an experience I will never forget. I remember the times that Dawn sat down with me while I was doing observations and asked me about myself, what I wanted to do, what I thought of the shows, and telling me to never give up. The most prominent memory I have is when I told her that my ex-boyfriend told me that I would never be able to be a trainer; and she told me that he sounds like a complete ignoramus and didn't know what he was talking about.
She said, "You moved out to Florida, didn't you? You're doing this internship, aren't you? You've ALREADY proved him wrong and I can definitely see you going places."

And she was right too; I went on to do the Navy Internship, and now I'm getting my poster ready for a conference, will be at the Showcase of Undergraduate Research Excellence, and will be graduating in May! Hopefully doing an internship at Disney or Seaworld shortly after graduation...so fingers still crossed for those!

But Dawn was an extremely influential person in my life and now I want to train in her memory for both the DBF Dream Big 5K on April 21st and my first triathlon sprint by the end of the year.

I gave blood for the first time today, because I wanted to do something good for someone who could use my help. :) I gave blood in honor of Dawn today and how she stood for helping and inspiring others, I finally felt the strength to do something that has scared me for so long!!! And I felt great afterwards :)

So I have new challenges ahead: midterms, the CO3, the SURE, Conservation Celebration, lifeguard re-certification, finals, and facing the unknown!

It has taught me to really value the here and now though; embrace the unknown and be prepared for anything!
:)

So my challenges for this upcoming week: ACE my Molec Cell Bio and Animal Phys midterms and wake up before 7:30a.

Here we go!

Back in the Game!

So it's been a really great week so far!

My poster is coming along quite nicely for the CO3, I'm getting ready to dominate my exams for next week, and I've been keeping up with a great eating/exercise routine!
Monday-40 minutes of Candlelight Yoga on Netflix
Tuesday-12 minutes of physical therapy exercises for my rotator cuff and 15 minutes of Level 1 of the Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred DVD
Wednesday (today)-45 minutes of swimming at the lap pool between my classes!

Tomorrow I'll probably take it a little easier and just do around 30-40 minutes of yoga, and then Friday I might squeeze in a Jillian session. This weekend is going to be WAY too crazy to try to fit in a workout...I've got the Bio Exit Exam Saturday morning, bridesmaid dress fitting with miss Andy afterwards, and then heading to the folks place that night, and then CMA Sunday!

I've got my Molec Cell Bio exam on Monday and then Animal Phys on Wednesday, and (maybe) Physics on Thursday...
2 Weeks until CO3!
6 Weeks until SURE!!
10.5 Weeks until GRADUATION!!!

Why, hello old friend!

Ahhh...motivation...it's been a while since I've REALLY had a good taste of it...but it's definitely here, and sweeter than ever!

Not going to write too much tonight, just jot down some notes because GREAT things are about to happen!!!

Went on a 20 min jog with Buds today since he's feeling better :) Gonna start setting up some small challenges again...gotta lose 10 lbs and gain some muscle/tone before Andy/Tim's wedding in August!!! I don't want flabby maid-of-honor arms when I try to catch the bouquet ;) hahaha!

Anyway, exams are done for another week or two, so I gotta start getting ahead of the game!
My Disney application is on phase two right now, so I'll be submitting my additional materials very soon!!!

Loving Dr. Worthy's lab still!

Here's a crazy countdown:
Less than one month: March 8th, the Comparative Cognition Conference that I'll be presenting my poster about Human-Robot Interactions
Less than 2 months: April 5th, the Showcase of Undergraduate Research Excellence (SURE) that I'll be presenting my poster about the Feeding Ecology of Bottlenose dolphins in the Pensacola & Choctawhatchee Bays
Less than 3 months: May 5th, GRADUATION!!! I gotta get invites and announcements sent out soon...YIKES!

I'M SO FREAKING EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On a more serious note, I could use a ton of prayers for my family this week :) Please and thank you!

Refreshed!

So now that I'm over my tummy-aches and head-aches, I'm feeling really refreshed!!! And this week has been off to a great start; busy, but really great!
No workouts to log yet, but I'm hoping I can squeeze something in tomorrow morning or tomorrow night...Buddy had a bit of a tummy-ache again :( I'm starting to think that he really DOES get depressed when we leave my parent's place! hahaha

Anyway, not going to write a lot today, but my meeting with the Disney Internship Coordinator went EXTREMELY well!!! She was so nice and gave me a lot of really valuable advice! Sounds like I have a decent shot at getting the internship I want...so here's to fingers crossed for that! :)

Feeling good as new and ready to take on a new challenge!!!
I'm going to be following a diet from Self Magazine that's supposed to promote health against cancer; which I think healthy eating does anyway, but I don't think I have the self control to follow SBD anymore..I TOTALLY pigged out on Reese's and KitKats when I was home for the weekend...so bad! That's probably what upset my stomach so much...hahah
I'm hoping that I can at least do yoga, the Jillian Michael's DVD, running with Buddy, or my shoulder exercises in the mornings (gotta stop hitting the snooze button...let the "morning person project" BEGIN!)

I've been slacking a little...but motivation is back, and tomorrow morning I'll be waking up by 8:00am and ready to start another long, but productive day :)
