I'm back!!!

Gosh, I can't believe it has been over ONE WHOLE MONTH since I've made a post on here!

Things were crazy with the last few weeks of school...the conference, work, finals! It was all such a whirlwind!
But the Society for Marine Mammalogy conference was absolutely AMAZING!!! I got to meet so many world renowned researchers and talk with them about their research, ask them for advice about graduate school, and possible internship opportunities!!! I got to sit down and talk to Dr. Herzing, Dr. Harley, Dr. Kuczaj, Dr. Dudzinski, Dr. Pack, Dr. da Silva...and SO many more! While I was staying the week with my parents I also got to take the chance and meet with the USF Psychology Department about graduate school. One of the professors does research in animal stress and memory models!!! IT WAS SO AMAZING!

Anyway, enough about that...I know this is meant to be a workout blog, but I just get so excited about this stuff!!! :) But it is relevant because I'm more motivated than EVER to get myself back to normal! And I mean normal like...not how I've been feeling/acting the past few months...but anyway, here we go!

I figured starting before New Years would help me get a jump start on sticking to my resolutions :) So far I've done pretty well! I've downloaded the OptumizeMe and miCoach apps to help get my butt in gear!!!

And I also have a pretty awesome gift waiting for me once I finish my challenges ;) But I'm not saying what it is yet!

So today I took Buddy on a run to the dog park and we had a great time! He's been SO tired for the rest of the day! He's actually passed out next to me on the couch right now ;)

I'm definitely feeling good about the end of 2011 and I'm excited for the start of a new year, 2012! The year I graduate from UCF with my undergraduate degrees :) It's so strange not knowing where I'm going to be this time next year...for the past four years it has always been, I'll be home for Christmas break, getting ready to go back to school...but this is the first time I have NO idea where I will be or what I will be doing!!! It's actually kind of a nice feeling knowing that anything is possible :)

Wow, I'm starting to get SUPER cheesy now and I think it's because I'm getting tired...but last thing: mom and I saw the movie New Years Eve and it was SO GOOD!!! It definitely made me want to reflect on this past year...and my life :) So I'll be doing a reflection of 2011 on December 31st!

Slump...

Things haven't been the greatest lately; kinda in a slump/rut...especially for exercise! Which my pants are definitely starting to tell me that I've been slacking off haha
I don't know if this semester is just catching up with me or what...but I've been feeling totally drained lately.

Trying to break out of it, but something else tends to come up to give me an excuse not to work out...not to get outta bed right when my alarm goes off...not to get ahead on that assignment that's coming up.

Maybe I just got used to one good thing after another happening, and now that things have calmed down they just seem more mundane...
or maybe I just had my expectations set too high...for a lot of different things this semester.

Disappointment is one of my biggest pet peeves...especially when I've disappointed myself in some way...but just disappointment in general really sucks. Not finishing the triathlon challenge was when this funk seemed to start off!
I haven't really been motivated to cook lately either (lack of time has a lot to do with that too) and I've been eating really horribly the past week or two...or three.

There's a lot of stuff going on that I wasn't expecting and I think that it's hitting me so hard this time because I haven't had to deal with any sort of bad news in a while!

I don't feel like I took all of the great things that have happened this semester for granted, but I definitely think senioritis is beginning to set in and I'm starting to hit the point of becoming "burnt-out!"

Time to resort back to my "20-Something, 20-Everything" book for some self-help advice :)

Until then, the next time I get my ass moving I will post it on here ASAP!

Triathlon Challenge: Day 17!

Made it to spin class this morning! :) Another 15 miles down, 52 to go!

Dropped Buddy off at Happy Paws this morning and picked him up around 6pm, so he had a FANTASTIC day full of fun with his furry friends! :)

Other than that, not too much else going on! Lots of schoolwork that I'm starting to buckle down for...luckily my time management has been pretty good lately!!!

Tomorrow's agenda: Jog 1.3 miles, then spin for 90 minutes to knock off 22 miles! Then I'll be studying, working in ACAT lab, then working at Petsmart for the night.

Clearwater Beach Clean-up this Sunday! Whoop whoop!!!

Wednesday, October 19, 2011

Fail for today...but not for the whole challenge!

So didn't make it to work out this morning...woke up with a massive headache for some reason :( So I tried to sleep it off, and it worked for the most part, but still lingered throughout the day...didn't make it to the gym tonight, but instead had dinner at Amigos with Samantha Horn! :) I definitely needed that instead of a gym day today hahaha!

Now that leaves the REVISED-revised schedule for the rest of the Triathlon Challenge:
Tomorrow, 10/20: Run 1.0 miles (8.3 miles left) Spin 15 miles (52 miles left)
Friday, 10/21: Run 0.3 miles (8.0 miles left) Spin 22 miles (30 miles left)
Saturday, 10/22: Run 4.0 miles (4.0 miles left)
Sunday, 10/23: Nothing due to Beach Clean-up (unless I can make it to the gym late Sunday night to finish my 4.0 miles of running!)
Monday, 10/24: Spin @ 4:15p for 15 miles (15 miles left!)
Tuesday, 10/25: Spin @ 5:30p for 15 miles (DONE with spinning!)
Wednesday, 10/26: Swim 1.2 miles/44 laps (DONE with swimming!)
THEN DONE WITH THE TRIATHLON CHALLENGE!!!

I've only got about a week and a half left to finish...so gotta finish out strong!!!
It will be such a feeling of accomplishment and I can not wait! Like I said before, I've gotta try to figure out a challenge like this for every month so I stay motivated :)

Other than that, classes are still going great! Lab positions are paying off more than ever and I'm loving every minute of working on them!

Like I said before...best semester ever :)

Triathlon Challenge: Day 15!

Semi-success!
Made it to spin class today to knock off another 15 miles of biking (which leaves 67 miles to go!) but didn't get a chance to jog before the class...but I plan on making that up tomorrow! I'll be at the spin class at 6:15a (yikes!) then will run at 6:45a! That should get me 7 more miles of biking and I'm shooting for 4.5-5.0 miles of running! :)
I'm really excited to complete this challenge; I think I'm going to set something like this every month!
I did see that the Disney Princess Half Marathon is coming up in February...that might be something to shoot for! Especially since the weather should be cooling down and Buddy will have SO much pent up energy!!!

But other than that; I am SO excited for everything that has been going on! I will be the lead on a project in CogSciLab that could lead to a conference poster presentation!!! :) SO PUMPED!
I really hope it works out!

Here is a cute picture of Buddy in (one of) his Halloween Costumes!

Race for the cure pictures!!! :)

I've got a TON of things going on lately, but I'm loving every minute of it :)

Race for the Cure and Triathlon Challenge: Days 13 and 14!

All right!
So Race for the Cure was a COMPLETE success!!! Ran my fastest time for a 5K yet (thanks Auntie Joyce!) at 29:16!
Thanks to Norah, Gabriela, and Natali for running on the Knights for Mammary Conservation team! :) Yall are awesome!!!

Placing 169th ain't too shabby! :)
So Race for the Cure was another 3.1 miles off of the Triathlon Challenge!

And today I managed to squeeze in a 2.8 mile walk/jog; so now I'm up to 16.9 miles; which means I have only 9.3 miles left for running!
I need to catch up on the biking part though...only at 30 miles, which means I have 82 miles to go!
I had to readjust my schedule so here's the updated break-down for the rest of the week:\

Tues 10/18-Run 2.0 miles, then Spin 15 miles
Weds 10/19-Spin 7 miles, then Run 3 miles
Thurs 10/20-Spin 15 miles
Fri 10/21-Spin 22 miles
Sat 10/22-Run 4.3 miles (DONE with Running!)
Sun 10/23-Nothing (Clearwater Beach Clean-up)
Mon 10/24-Spin 7 miles
Tues 10/25-Spin 16 miles (DONE with Biking!)
Wed 10/26-Swim 1.2 miles (DONE with Swimming!)
DONE WITH THE TRIATHLON CHALLENGE!!!  :)

That will be such a wonderful feeling and accomplishment...I CAN'T WAIT!

Triathlon Challenge: Day 12!

WOW!

This was an amazing week!!! Another great day today :)

Started off by running 3.1 miles in the gym! Another Tri-Challenge success!!!

Did an awesome time today! If I hadn't felt a blister forming (which it did...ugh!) or could figure out how to do a proper warm-up before it starts tracking your pace, it would've been even better!!! :)

Anyway, after that I went to PEBL to work and also talked with Dr. Worthy. This man is my HERO!!! He also knows Dr. Herzing! And he also told me about the Society for Marine Mammalogy (which I am now a student member of!) and the biennial conference in Tampa that is at the end of November! And the crazy part about it? The online registration for the conference ends TODAY! So if I hadn't decided to go ask for Dr. Worthy's advice, I would've missed out and had to pay an extra $50 and register the day of the conference...so I definitely lucked out and it just goes along with the whole "everything happens for a reason!" :)

That's pretty much it...LIFE IS GOOD!

Triathlon Challenge: Day 11!

My lucky number, #11!!! :)

Today definitely started off well: went to spin class to knock off another 15 miles of biking for the Triathlon Cardio Challenge!
So now I have done:
1.2 miles of swimming
7.7 miles of running
30.0 miles of biking

Which means I have to do:
1.2 miles of swimming
18.5 miles of running
82 miles of biking
in the next 17 days! That means it's crunch time!!!

Tomorrow (10/14) I will run 4.4 miles
Saturday (10/15) I will run 3.1 miles
Sunday (10/16) I will run 3.1 miles and spin 15 miles
Monday (10/17) I will spin 15 miles
Tuesday (10/18) I will spin 15 miles
Wednesday (10/19) I will run 5.0 miles
Thursday (10/20) I will spin 15 miles
Friday (10/21) I will run 2.9 miles (DONE with running!)
Saturday (10/22)I will spin 15 miles
Sunday (10/23) I will swim 1.2 miles (DONE with swimming!)
Monday (10/24) I will spin 7 miles (DONE with biking!)
THEN I WILL HAVE COMPLETED THE CHALLENGE IN THREE WEEKS!!! :)

So I gotta keep on top of everything!
And...I GOT AN 85 ON MY MAMMALOGY EXAM!!!

It is yet another great day and once again I am SO thankful for everything that has been happening lately!
I will have an ACAT lab meeting tonight, and I just got a ton of things from the RAMP program that I will need to complete! But it's still exciting :) this is still the best semester EVER!!!

So now I'm going to get a little sentimental for a bit...
I can't say enough how thankful I am for my decision to move to Florida and come to UCF. There have been SO many opportunities for me out here that I'm pretty sure I couldn't have gotten anywhere else...so for me, UCF really does stand for opportunity :) I love Florida, I love Orlando, I love UCF! And my new anthem is the song "I Love This City!" Everything has fallen into place being out here and I'm so thankful for everything that I have been offered out here that will help me to achieve my dream life :) All I know is...I am staying here for grad school! Not necessarily "here" as in UCF, but definitely here in Florida!

Oh what a beautiful morning! Oh what a beautiful day!!!

...I've got a beautiful feeeeeliiiin; everything's goin' my waaaaaay!!! :)

Pretty much the theme of the day!
I got to campus to try and table for KMWC but didn't know you needed a reservation, so instead I went to the gym :) pumped out 3.1 miles in 34 minutes! Not bad considering that I took a lot of time off this weekend! ;)

Anyway, the great things about today:
1) I turned in my first time sheet for RAMP! Gonna get paid soon ;)
2) The grad school fair was VERY insightful! A lot of information!!! Kinda overwhelming hahaha
3) Dr. Worthy has got the HOOK-UP for my future! He knows Dr. Colbert :)
4) The Disney Internship presentation was FANTASTIC!!! It was so nice finally getting to meet the intern coordinators behind the e-mails :)
5) The KMWC meeting room need extra chairs because we had so many people! SO AWESOME!!!

That's pretty much it for today :) Gonna get a little work done then take it easy for the night!
YAY YAY YAY!!!

Running behind...! Gotta get back on track ASAP!

All right, so far I've completed:
4.4 miles running
15 miles biking
1.2 miles swimming

This week hasn't started off as productive as last week but that will change! I was hoping to make it to spin class today, but the bake sale set-up went longer than I expected...but that's okay!
The plan for the rest of the week is:
Wed-Spin 7 miles (6:15am express class), 3.1 miles running
Thurs-Spin 15 miles (9am spin class)
Fri-Run 3.1 miles
Sat-Spin 15 miles
Sun-Run 3.1 miles (Race for the Cure!)

My legs are gonna be screaming again! But it's worth it :) I don't get my iPhone until I finish this triathlon cardio challenge...so the sooner the better!!!

Anyway, this weekend was fantastic! Jesse was here, we went to Halloween Horror Nights, we had awesome food (yay orange chicken!) and we started watching Dexter: Season 3...SOOO GOOD!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to get all caught up for this season!

So the bake sale for KMWC was pretty successful! :) So proud of how everything has gone this year!

OH! And I met the Disney Internship Coordinator for the marine mammal internship when I was working on Friday! :) We talked for a good time and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can get the internship after I graduate!!!

So that was pretty dang cool, and tomorrow we've got the KMWC Disney Internship presentation...how ironic, right?! :) DEFINITELY keeping my fingers crossed...!

Tri-Challenge: Day 3!

Before I get started with my Mammalogy cram session for the night, I figured I'd do my blog before I shut down my computer!

Today was pretty busy: worked in Dr. Worthy's lab from 9:30a-2pm
then I went swimming and did 44 laps (which is HALF of what I needed to complete the swimming! AWESOME!!!) I only  have 44 more laps left :) So luckily this one was a piece of cake! I ended up mainly just using the pull buoy though because my legs were killing me and tiring me out SO fast! I figured that's kinda like what a regular triathlon would be like though...with the running and biking, you gotta save your legs during the swimming, right?!
I've also decided that I do not get my upgrade to the iPhone until I complete the triathlon challenge (even though the new iPhone comes out on the 14th)...so that is even more motivation for me to finish faster!!!

Anyway...the KMWC meeting went well too! Things are moving along quite nicely for the club :) I'm so excited!

So that pretty much wraps it up for the day! So as of right now I have completed 4.4 miles of running, 15 miles of biking, and 44 laps/1.2 miles of swimming...awesome!!! I just need to keep it up now :)

All right, goodnight and I'll update again tomorrow! :)
Wish me LOTS of luck on my exam in the morning!!!

Tri-Challenge: Day 2

Today had some highs and some lows too. I could kinda tell it wasn't going to be a great day when my printer settings got messed up and ended up printing my notes out wrong for mammalogy...so anyway,
I'll start with the disappointing news...
1) I didn't make Homecoming Court
2) I got a 73% on my Tropical Ecology exam...definitely thought I got a B...
3) I'm more behind on my studying for Mammalogy that I would like to be
4) I have a Spanish presentation to do on Thursday and I'm NOT ready for it :(

So then the good stuff:
1) I woke up at 7:30 and had an awesome breakfast! A waffle and 2 links of apple-maple chicken sausage :)
2) I made it to spin class today! 15 miles down :)
3) I had enough leftover calories to treat myself to a bowl of Special K Chocolatey Delight Cereal :)

Anyway...that's pretty much it for today; I've gotta get cracking on my mammalogy flash cards

Triathlon Challenge: Day 1

I realized that I haven't really explained the whole Triathlon Challenge thing...
here's the deal:
We get one month (starting today) to complete a full triathlon:
*112 miles biking
*26.2 miles running
*and 2.4 miles swimming

My plan is for the first 2 weeks to complete 8.8 miles of running, 1 mile of swimming, and 37.5 miles for biking (each of the two weeks). Then, on week 3 I can take it a little bit easier (8.6 miles running, 0.4 miles swimming, and 37 miles biking). That way, I will complete the challenge one week before the end of the month (ironically...Homecoming week!)
So that's the deal, and I'm pretty pumped about this! That means if I attend 2 full spin classes (1 hour class = 15 miles biking) and one express spin class (7 miles), go to swim club once or twice a week, and run 4.4 miles (about 1 hour) 2 days a week, then this will be a "piece of cake..." to complete the challenge, not for my body haha
The reason that I'm doing this is not only because I would like to lose some weight and tone up a bit, but because my endurance is completely SHOT. I do not like getting winded as I'm walking up the three flights of stairs to my apartment...especially when I have to walk Buddy haha so this will force me to wake up early, get sh*t done, and have a healthier lifestyle! Plus...with all of the calories that I'm burning with the intense exercise, I get to splurge a bit on food ;)

All right!
So now that every one is all caught up, here is the daily dish:
Day 1 was a complete success!!! :)
Woke up at 6:30am, took Buddy for a walk, left for the gym (drinking my banana/mango smoothie on the way!), started running on the treadmill at 7:15a and finished right around 8:10a (after my cooldown and stretching)! I ended up making 3.1 miles in about 32 minutes, even with a 3 minute warm-up! So I consider that a pretty major success for my first day :) Getting ready for that Race for the Cure!
**Go Knights for Mammary Conservation!**

I came back home to clean up a bit and rewarded myself with an awesome second breakfast (just like the Navy days!) with an English muffin topped with a slice of bacon, colby jack cheese, and an egg!

I went back to campus and worked in Dr. Worthy's lab until around 2:45p, then had to do a quick study sesh for my Behavioral Modification class (I love this class...yes, I am in it right now haha but get this...our extra credit on our quiz was explaining how to reinforce a dog to sit...PetSmart job FTW!) Totally aced that quiz btw ;)

-Tomorrow my plan is to attend a 9am spin class (my crotch is going to be SO sore lol it always is after I haven't done a spin class in months...)
-Wednesday morning I will do a 1/2 mile swim (44 laps)
-Thursday I will do a night spin class at 6:45p (I would do the 9am one, but I need that time to study for Mammalogy before the exam!)
-Friday I will run another 4.4 miles
-Saturday I will take the day off because I'm going with Jesse, Brett, Desiree, and whoever else to Halloween Horror Nights!
-Sunday I will go to swim club again from 11a-1p...and maybe even get ahead on my mileage for swimming! ;)

I got my picture up on the PEBL poster now!
That's me in the bottom left corner of the undergrad students! YAY!!!
Now it's TOTALLY official ;) I got to start recording my hours to turn into the RAMP program so that way I can start getting PAID!!!

Also, I went to church yesterday and saw Caitie Corrigan (shout-out!)! Haven't seen her since practically freshman year so that was awesome!
And I did end up seeing Sam Tankersly (shout-out!) after my run this morning...she's going to be my mediator to make sure I don't slack off in the Tri-Challenge...right Sam?? ;)

Again, I just want to thank everybody for all of their support and love!
YALL ARE AWESOME!!! :)

I Count My Blessings (each and every day!)

I had my interview for Homecoming Court on Thursday, and it was INTENSE!!! There were 4 people interviewing me and I was NOT expecting that! I was sooo nervous and they could probably tell...haha but it was a lot of fun! I got to talk about KMWC and my experience here at UCF and how being here has helped me become the person that I am today :) I will hear back sometime this week if I made it onto the Homecoming Court or not...so nervous!

Also, check this out:

"Melyssa,
It is my pleasure to inform you that you have been selected from a group of qualified candidates into the Research and Mentoring Program for our pilot one year program for graduating Seniors."

AMAZINGNESS!!!

So I did end up officially getting my funding for the RAMP program (as you can see above)! Now I will be working in Dr. Worthy's PEBL lab and will get up to $2800 for the fall and spring semesters!!! I am SO lucky because this is the first year that they were offering this program to seniors!

Also...today I found out that my opportunities are expanding! Dr. Fiore sent this e-mail out to the CogSciLab and he actually mentions how I am contributing to the project!!!
"A significant portion of the discussion at our talk revolved around the animal-human communication...
One of our undergraduate RAs on this project, Melyssa Allen, is an avid researcher in this area (e.g., has interned with marine biologists and animal behaviorists). So Patsy and the grad students are working with her to develop a paper which explores this literature to examine the breadth and depth of ways that humans are able to communicate with animals."

Do you know what this means?! If we are able to carry out this literature review paper, MY NAME WILL
BE ON A PUBLISHED SCIENTIFIC JOURNAL ARTICLE!!! So freaking exciting!

Like the title of this entry says...I am counting my blessings each and every day!!!

The Triathlon Challenge starts on Monday...so I'm pretty excited! I've got my schedule planned out, so I really have to make sure I manage my time well for studying and work and lab work!!!

Although this has been my busiest semester with my hardest courseload...this has been the GREATEST semester ever so far!!! I really hope it keeps up that way!

I would really like to thank everyone for all of their support and encouragement! It wouldn't be easy for me to get through all of this without all of my amazing friends and family!!!
:)

So this is just for your entertainment...Buddy and his new squeaky football toy! As you can tell...
he doesn't like it at all ;)

There was also a baby-Buddy at work today! Just look at the similarity! She was SO precious!!!

Slummin' it since Saturday :)

So Saturday was the Central Florida Invitational!!!

It was definitely fun! ...but I've got a lot of work to do hahaha

So...it totally looks like I came in first in my heat...right? haha well, I was definitely LAST! I was the swimmer that everyone was like "Aww look at that poor girl...everyone's done and waiting on her to finish" lol! I didn't care though, it was a personal achievement for me! Now I have a time to compare the upcoming November meet too, so as long as I improve I'll be happy :) It's cool to be part of a team again too!

I also have the Triathlon Challenge starting this MONDAY, October 3rd! I will have one month to do 112 miles of biking, 2.4 miles of swimming, and 26.2 miles of running at the gym...boo-yea!!! This will be one of my busiest months ever, but I know it's going to be a good month too :) Starting tomorrow I am waking up by 6:30am every weekday, getting a workout in, and then continuing with my regular schedule. I've given myself a break the past few days to regroup and start getting on track for the upcoming month with planning, cleaning, and studying! I am hoping to do the Marineland Triathlon Sprint sometime next summer :)

OH! And I got called to have an interview on Thursday for the Homecoming Court!!! It would be SO amazing to be in the running for Homecoming Queen at UCF! It would definitely make my senior year :) It would be one of the highlights of my LIFE if I actually ended up winning! Haha but I definitely won't get my hopes up for that...I haven't even had my interview yet! So I'm really super nervous about it...agh!!

Anyway, that's pretty much the update so far...as far as Buddy goes, he had his shots updates yesterday and he was such a good boy! :) My brave little toaster! He is plenty healthy and the vet says I've been doing a great job taking care of him!!! I can't believe I've almost had Buddy for a  year already! So crazy how time flies :)

Thursday, September 22, 2011

6:35 am FTW!!!

I managed to do it again! I am SO proud of myself!!!

Buddy and I got up, I got ready to take him on a run, and we walked around the lake twice for a warm-up. We jogged 2.1 miles in 21 minutes...10 minute mile time!!! Pretty proud of myself for that too ;)
We did stop and take 2 breathers so that Buddy could meet his first horses! He was super nervous at first haha but the horses were right up at the fence-line and once I held my hand up to them, Buddy relaxed a bit and then was stretching SOOO far to sniff them, but he didn't want to get too close haha he kept hiding behind me...so funny! But he did really well for meeting such huge animals for the first time! :)

Last night I went to swim club for a bit, but we were really only practicing dives (which I don't think I've ever done before...so nerve-racking!!!) and then I came home and did some homework!

Also, I had a SUPER GOOD breakfast today too! Yet another reason that I like waking up a little earlier now :)
Check it out: Scrambled eggs & egg whites, apple-maple-flavored chicken sausage, and strawberries & raspberries!!! Absolutely delish! Go ahead...be jealous! ;)

Anyway, things have been going so well lately! I'm definitely feeling SO good with eating better and exercising more :)
Reasons I've liked getting up earlier rather than sleeping in super late:
-I get to make awesome breakfast
-I get to do some homework/reading before class/lab
-I get time to look decent instead of going to class in my PJs
-I get quality time with Buds!
-I get to have more time in the day
-I sleep SO good at night on days that I wake up early!
-Buddy sleeps SO good on days that I take him for a jog!
-I get time to make my lunch before I go to class/lab instead of making it the night before
-I actually don't feel as tired as the day goes on :)
-Sometimes I get to justify a nap in the afternoon (when I actually get some time in the afternoon!)

haha overall, I've been pretty happy with the change! There are days that I just need the extra sleep because I went to bed later, but at least I'm not sleeping in until 10 or 11 like I used to! Now it's more like 9:00a is sleep in time :)

Last night at the oyster meeting was SUCH a great success too!!! I'm so proud of how well KMWC has been doing this year :)

*Satisfied*

Monday, September 19, 2011

I was awake, up, and out of bed before 7am...WHOA!

I really can't believe I did it...I actually got up and started getting ready to take Buddy on a run at 6:45 this morning! That gave me time to put in my contacts, get my iPod ready, and put my shoes on and take a warm-up walk with Buddy before we got started jogging at 7am!
My stats were: My pedometer: Today covered 2.1 mi in 25 min and burned 188 Cals

Not bad considering Buddy had to poop TWICE while we were running! lol Silly dog...but he has been SO happy with the early morning jogs :) AND so tired...which makes me very happy too!!!

Also...I got an 86% on my Mammalogy exam! Whoop whoop!!! My straight A's for this semester may not be as hard as I thought :) Just gotta time manage and make sure I stick to my study plans! I have an Ecology exam next Tuesday...yikes! There's a ton of info for that class so I gotta get started ASAP!

The first PEBL meeting was today and there was SO much that I learned! With a lot of the graduate students going through their dissertations and proposal defenses, it's definitely eye-opening to see the process that I will have to go through someday! I have to admit...it's pretty exciting though :) As stressful as it will likely be, I'm excited to be doing my own research someday! To even be doing research now is crazy!!! :)

I love it though and I'm SO excited to see where this new-found element of mine leads me!
YAY!!!

Good Weekend!

Things were good this weekend!
Had work yesterday from 10-6p, then came home, ate, did Day 2 Level 1 of Jillian Michael's 30-Day Shred (it was a little easier this time!)
Today was very relaxing! Took it easy this morning, did some reading in bed, got the Phase II Application for the RAMP program completed! So hopefully the funding won't be far behind :) My project is going to be wonderful! The title is "Feeding Ecology of Bottlenose Dolphins in Choctawhatchee and Pensacola Bays"

Pretty exciting stuff, right?!? :) I'm SO pumped!

I've got my first swim meet this Saturday and I'm SO nervous!!! I mean, I don't expect to do well anyway, but I'm still super nervous!!! I got a new swim suit (it's purple!), goggles, and a practice swim cap so I don't always have to use my UCF one :)

Other than that, I found the secret to getting motivated to study Spanish...and that is listening to a Spanish station on the radio! Rumba 100.3 was the choice of the day (thanks Dayma!) and I got my flashcards and some studying done :) I still have to do physio psych and study for my behavioral modification quizzes tomorrow, so I better get back to the books! :)

Looking forward to another productive week!

WOW...Long, Productive Day!

Woke up at 7am, took Buddy on a jog and covered 2.5 mi in 32 min and burned 227 Calories!

Pretty successful, I'd say! :) After that I showered and ate breakfast, then went to see Dr. Worthy to talk about my research project...I'M SO EXCITED!!! It is a wonderful feeling knowing that I am actually going to receive some extra money for doing undergraduate research :) Hallelujah!

After that I came home and worked on my Spanish homework and did some reading, then took a break to watch Ghost Whisperer and eat lunch, then went back on campus to turn in my application for Homecoming Court!!! I'm really keeping my fingers crossed :) I would LOVE the chance to represent UCF and KMWC!

Then I came back home, did some more reading/homework and went to work...had a puppy class start tonight and they are SOOO cute!!! :) Buddy did REALLY well today too...I think I have to take him on longer jogs more often hahaha

Anyway, I'm going to grab a little something to eat before bed and then hit the pillows!
UCF has an away game tomorrow...GO KNIGHTS!!!

PS: I also created a Race for the Cure team: The Knights for Mammary Conservation!
If you're interested in joining...PLEASE DO! :)

Super Success!!! :)

SOOOO many things going on lately! GOOD things...GREAT THINGS!!! :)

First off, I have been doing much better than I expected with waking up early, getting exercise, and eating healthy!

Monday and Tuesday I had the day off from exercise because I had a mammalogy exam to study for, but I was eating really well during those times! I've been keeping super busy with school, work, and research...and I love it!!!
Felt like I got a solid B on my Mam-exam (I'm hoping!)
Yesterday I had Kashi waffles for breakfast, a strawberry fields salad for lunch, and Amanda's homemade chili (SUPER GOOD by the way roomie!!! Thanks!) and Kashi pesto pasta primavera for dinner! Then I treated myself with Back to Nature cookies for dessert because I went to swim club :) for practically the entire time! A full hour and 45 minutes!!! SWEET! I'm getting nervous for the Central Florida Invitational...but I'm excited!

Anyway, I also found out that I am going to get paid as a research assistant for Dr. Worthy and be able to write up my own research from the data, make a poster, get my paper published, AND present at the Showcase of Undergraduate Research Excellence (SURE) in spring!!! SO PUMPED!
So now I have a volunteer research position for CogSciLab, a paid position for PEBL, and a school credit position for ACAT lab! How does THAT look for my resume for grad school?! ;)

Basically I'm just thankful for everything that has happened for me this year, I have the best parents, best friends, best boyfriend, best "son," best roommate, and best opportunities going on! :) I have been feeling better than ever lately, and I think this is just the beginning.

These pictures just make me SO happy :)

Yep...I'm totally making him a pumpkin for Halloween this year :)
He's been SUCH a good boy! I love that I have the best doggie ever...he makes me so happy!!!

Busy Weekend! :)

Wow, so there was A LOT going on this weekend! The majority of it was work :( Friday and Saturday...but anyway, down to the nitty-gritty...
After I got off from work on Saturday I had SO much fun!!! Jesse and I went with Amanda and Sam to the Whirl-and-Twirl for some swing dancing! SO AWESOME!!! I loved the classic music, and that the steps weren't toooo terribly hard to catch on to...at times hahaha depending on the dancing partner you had! Jesse and I have great dance-floor chemistry :) Except when I smack him in the face with my arm on the left-spin...(sorry babe!) BUT...then we started whipping out some of the fancy moves; we were actually able to do one of the classic moves where the guy swings the girl on both sides! SO much fun!!! Then we all went downtown to Ember where there was this fantastic DJ (shout-out to Rybar!!!) hahaha ;) and there was delicious BBQ chicken flatbread, and Pitbull's "Give Me Everything," and (yes) Jesse and I whipped out some fabulous swing dancing moves on the dance floor ;) hahaha!!! It was such a blast!

Then this morning Jesse made breakfast and my parents came into town for UCF Family Weekend! My last one :( so emotional! Haha even though they're only 2 hours away, I still miss them BUNCHES! So we went to the UCF gym and I went to swim practice for about 50-60 min and we worked on flip turns! I made pretty decent progress since it was the first time I had tried it :) Then my parents and I went to the UCF Volleyball game vs. FAU...loved it! It makes me miss playing SO much...even though I was never anywhere near as good as the girls on those teams, I just miss the sport :) Can not WAIT for IM volleyball (The conSERVERS!)

Food today was very good too! Started off with Jesse's famous egg scrambler with spinach, ham, turkey, and cheese; then I had a hot dog at the volleyball game; half of a HUGE sandwich at Smokey Bones (and some onion rings!); and for dessert I had Greek yogurt, with honey mixed in and strawberries, blackberries, and Back to Nature's "Apple and Blueberry Granola"...DELICIOUS! :)

Now, it is time for me to catch some zzzz's...so far so good for this fabulous fall semester!
Let's keep it up for this week too :)
(first Mammalogy exam on Tuesday..yikes! Wish me luck!)

TGIF!

Had a pretty good Friday :)

Got to sleep in a bit! Enjoyed some gooooood food today (leftovers, yum!)

Watched Ghost Whisperer and Spongebob and Phineas & Ferb...yes I know that I am in college and I still watch Disney and Nickelodeon shows hahaha

THEN I did the Jillian Michaels' 30-Day Shred DVD for the first time...TOTALLY kicked my booty, but I loved it! I still worked up a sweat without thinking that I am going to die halfway through it haha it makes me wanna stick with it that way :)

Anyway, Jesse is here now and we've got a fun weekend ahead (and some homework...but I'll manage!)
Update later this weekend! :)

Pretty Good Day Overall!

Started off by sleeping in today (mammalogy was cancelled!) then went to Spanish and took my Tropical Ecology Quiz...feel pretty good about it! Had to leave class a little early though to go to the ACAT lab meeting, which went really well too! It's neat to actually be on a team where they are going through the planning process and such for the experiments!

So after that, I ended up going for a swim! All on my own!!! I am pretty darn proud of myself :) haha but I NEED to start practicing more because I'm registered for the Central Florida Invitational now! It will be my first swim meet since I was in 2nd grade lol oh boy! But I'm excited (and SUPER nervous...) for it! Only 2 weeks away on Sept. 24th! I swam for a bout 40 minutes, pretty easy, I just needed to get SOME workout time in for the week; Labor day really threw me off haha

But anyway, ate well again today! Cereal and milk for breakfast, scrambled eggs with ham and cheese for lunch, Sunchips and an apple with peanut butter for a snack, and finally, a warm spinach/tomato/mushroom/avocado salad with white wine dressing and crab alfredo for dinner! DELISH!!! Mom got me hooked on the show "CHOPPED" on the food channel...so I'm digging into my inner creative chef! haha

Now back to reading/studying and then it's bedtime :) gonna start waking up between 6-7 every morning to get some studying in! Gotta make a schedule that's more conducive to studying because every day is so busy lately!

Labor Day Vacay!

So I definitely didn't keep up with eating well and exercising over Labor day hahaha but it's just so tempting to be home with the parents and splurge and relax! :)

Anyway, I had my first day of PEB Lab! As nerdy as this sounds...pulverizing freeze-dried fish and labeling the samples was pretty awesome!!! The time went by really fast, but then I realized that I forgot my lunch and left a little bit early to eat, and grab the key for the meeting tonight from Frank...
WHICH (by the way) the meeting was fantastic!!! We had about 30 people show up! So excited!!! Next time we will have more pizza and we will have a guest speaker or an activity prepared haha

No swim club for me tonight, I gotta get in study mode for my tropical ecology class tomorrow...first quiz of the semester!

I think I'll end up doing Power Yoga tomorrow night...but we'll see...it's starting to be crunch time already! Mammalogy exam and TropEco Research Proposal on Tuesday...and parent's weekend is this weekend, and so is Amanda's (my roomie) birthday! Gotta make sure I get some work done so I can enjoy the fun too :)

I'll post once I accomplish something besides eating better haha

Super Successful So Far!!!

Things have been going great this week! :)

I actually made it to Swim Club tonight! It felt AMAZING!!! So much better this year than when I first tried to join...they actually had separate lanes based on your level...it was great! I managed to greatly improve on my butterfly stroke! :) So pumped!

Ate pretty well today too: cereal in the morning, Chick-fil-A for lunch, and stir-fry leftovers (thanks Jesse!) and finished off the night by having some fresh-baked cookies (compliments of Amanda; thank youuuu!!!) and got to clean the spoon and the bowl of the excess cookie dough ;) It was definitely a nice reward after getting back from a tiring workout! So I deserved it haha but the best part is that I didn't over-indulge! Just enough sweetness to enjoy it ;)

But it was definitely a busy day today! Had my Miss UCF 2012 audition this morning haha TOTALLY not what I expected...I thought it was just a school pageant, but it was not...it's like legit Miss America style! You'd have a sign a 2-year contract if you won and make appearances and stuff like that...totally not into that seriousness lol
Then I had to attend the RSO orientation; same information as last year haha but it was only an hour so it wasn't bad! I was entertained during my lunch because outside of the GameStop on campus there were some people doing a dancing game on the Kinect...super cool!

Other than that, I came home, chilled with Buddy (we watched Ghost Whisperer...Love you Jennifer Love!) and then did some reading and headed to Swim Club! I was SUPER tempted to leave after I signed the paperwork...but I forced myself to stay, and I'm glad that I did! Starting off easy and building through the semester; exactly what I was looking for! :)

Found out that I'll be working Mondays and Wednesdays in Dr. Worthy's Lab from 9a-3p...I've got my orientation shift next Wednesday! :) I'm so pumped! Things with CogSciLab are still going great; I'm loving every minute of it! And the first meeting for ACAT lab is tomorrow, but it's during my Tropical Ecology class, so I'll probably miss most of it :(

Anyway, like I keep saying...it's gonna be a busy semester, but it's gonna be amazing! :)

Conservation club social tomorrow night! Our first event of the year!!! WOOHOO!
Bought a reusable cup today at Chick-Fil-A in the spirit of going green ;) Plus, it was only like $5 and you get $0.99 refills on campus! SWEET!!!

Tuesday, August 30, 2011

Oh Tuesdays...

WOW...Tuesdays are definitely draining...

This morning I had my Depo shot,
then I had Mammalogy,
then I had Spanish II,
then I had Tropical Ecology...
THEN I had about 30 minutes to eat and get to work...
NOW I am going to sleep!!!

But overall, it was a good day! :)
I sold 4 classes today at work (one puppy class, and three rollovers to intermediate classes from my graduating Beginner class tonight!!!)
I am TOTALLY into the material that we're learning in Mammalogy too! And Spanish was a little better...she only called on me once haha
Tropical Ecology is sorta boring so far...but I think I just need to start reading and taking my own notes; the professor is sorta bland, so he's hard to listen to!

But anyway; today was my day off from working out! I think I may switch it up and go to the 6:15am spin class tomorrow morning instead of Swim Club at night and then take it easy for the rest of the week!

Okay so don't laugh...but I have an audition for Miss UCF 2012 tomorrow morning! And I'm also filling out an application for Homecoming Queen...I know, I know, it's silly...but I figure it's my last year so why not try! :) What's the worst that can happen; they say no? haha!

Anyway, just found out I'll be working in Dr. Worthy's lab from 9am-3pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, so that should be fun! Then I'll be in the ACAT lab on Fridays running experiments :)

This is already such an AWESOME semester!!!
:)

Start of Week Two!

This past weekend was absolutely spectacular!!! :) Jesse was in town and surprised me with a bouquet of orange roses, I got a box of chocolate-covered strawberries from my parents, Jesse made me a delicious dinner after work on Friday, we went to 50 Brews Saturday night to watch some football and play some pool, and then we got to have Buddy's graduation ceremony for his Advanced class on Sunday!!! :)

 Happy Graduation Buddy!!!

Beautiful Flowers from Jesse Smith!

 Buddy's Graduation Present! ;)

Things have already been pretty busy, but I'm so ready for it and so excited for everything that is going on! All of the labs I'm involved in, upcoming meetings and events for KMWC, training for a triathlon, and all of the classes that I'm taking (well...all of them are enjoyable except Spanish! "Solamente en Espanol por favor!")

Anyway, I'm starting to train for a mini-triathlon starting this Wednesday by going to Swim Club from 7p-9p, then attending a 30 minute 6:15am spin class on Friday morning, then taking Buddy for a job on either Sunday or Monday while I'm visiting my parents for Labor Day weekend!
So I will jog for 3.1 miles once a week, attend Swim Club either Wednesday nights or Sunday afternoons, and attending a spin class once a week! That's the plan :)

I'm trying to take better care of myself for this semester since I know I'm going to be tested with everything I have going on in my life, and I think being healthier, maintaining a better schedule (earlier mornings, earlier nights), and keeping on top of my studies will help me in the long run! I will be applying a lot of material from my Behavior Modification class to accomplish some of these tasks ;)

Anyway, I'm just so thankful for everything in my life!!!
And I can't wait to see what the future holds :)

Successful Starts! :)

So I'm officially moved out of the old place and into the new place, and it has been nothing but smooth sailing so far!!!

I definitely think the old apartment held some bad energy...so it's nice to have a brand new fresh start! :)

School started yesterday for me, and my first classes were very successful! Mammalogy is going to be a lot of work, but I am LOVING the class material! Spanish II is going to be annoying...but Tropical Ecology is going to be a very interesting class to; we actually get to make and present research proposals! Physiological Psychology is going to be a little time consuming (a lot of reading...) but I think Neurobiology will help me out with some of the material! At least that class was good for something ;)

Other than that, I actually traded my Psychology of Career Development class for a class called Behavioral Modifications! I'm excited for this class material too; it's all about going more in depth with different training methods to, well, modify behavior! Hahaha
I also ended up getting ANOTHER research assistant position! This one counts for class credit and I have applied for it every semester since last year! So now I am involved as an undergraduate research assistant in:
-the Cognitive Sciences Lab
-the Physiological Ecology and Bioenergetics Lab
-and now, the Applied Cognition and Technology (ACAT) Lab!!!
(Thanks to Dr. Fiore, Dr. Worthy, and Dr. Chin for all of these amazing opportunities!)

So 19 credit hours, 3 research assistant positions, and a part-time job later...I am more excited for this semester than any other semester I've ever had!!! I know it is going to be a lot of work, but I know that I am going to love every minute of it :) There may be times that I struggle, but I feel that this is going to be the best preparation for me to get into the grad school program of my dreams and one day be able to conduct my own research!

Great things are happening, and I have to admit...that this is the happiest I have been in a very, very long time, and I have a ton of people to thank for that :)
I am feeling back to my old self, doing things that I love, studying material that is actually interesting to me, and not feeling as lethargic and fatigued as I have been the past year since I got back from San Diego. I went to a meeting for Swim Club tonight, so I will probably be doing that on Wednesday nights and Sundays, and then I will definitely be doing IM volleyball this semester :)

Other than that, things are falling into place even better than I could have asked for! I am so incredibly thankful for it too :)

I am feeling nice and tired from today; so much excitement and I didn't even take a nap today! :)
Food choices for me today were EXCELLENT and I'm feeling great!

Breakfast: Egg White, Spinach, and Feta Omelet!

Snack: Banana and Mango Smoothie!

Gonna finish off the rest of the week on this high note for sure!!! :)

FINALLY MOVED OUT!!!

Well, the deed is done...I am officially out of the old apartment and into the new one! It is SO nice here!!! Buddy and I LOVE it so much!!! He gets a nice lake to walk around and ducks to watch for his entertainment, and I get to enjoy the amazing workout room here along with the other amenities!

I'm still getting settled into the new apartment, but it's almost complete! There's just a few more things I need to put away :)
But my new room is so nice and my bathroom is HUGE! Absolutely love it here :) Can't say that enough!

So I have not worked out for days, because moving has been enough of a workout for me! Three flights of stairs...? Yeah, carrying boxes and bags counts for my cardio and strength for the day! ;)

Today is the first official day of the Fall 2011 semester! Luckily, I only have Tuesday/Thursday classes now :) That worked out GREAT!!!
So here's the new schedule:
Mammalogy
Spanish II
Tropical Ecology and Conservation
Physiological Psychology (online)
Psychology of Career Development (online)

So this semester is going to be a busy one...but I'm SO excited for it!
I am...
*the President of Knights for Marine and Wildlife Conservation
*an undergraduate research assistant for the Cognitive Sciences Lab
*an undergraduate research assistant for the Physiological Ecology and Bioenergetics Lab
*a part-time Pet Trainer at PetSmart
*a member of Psi Chi
*a member of UCF Best Buddies (and hopefully Buddy can be this year too!)

WOW! That makes me tired just looking at all of that stuff, but like I said...I am SO ready for this semester!
It's too bad that my summer break consisted of moving, but I'll deal :)

Anyway, I'm super tired from all of this craziness, so I'm gonna squeeze in a quick nap before I continue cleaning/organizing my new room and start getting things ready for my classes tomorrow!!! :)

YAY!

Saturday, August 6, 2011

FREEDOM!!!

It's finally here! No more school for 2 weeks :) I'll still have work, but no studying for a while!

I worked today and then Buddy and I went home on a 30 min walk/jog and then showered, made a banana and mango smoothie and then I started laundry. After that it was time for Moscato, facial, nails, and the Phineas & Ferb movie! :) I love regressing back to childhood!
Anyway, I have a really good feeling about the month of August :) I think a change in scenery will be a good thing! I think this apartment has negative energy for me as far as everything that has happened here...it will be nice to open a new chapter in a new place with new friends! I know Buddy and Heidi are going to have a blast together and I'm pretty sure Amanda and I are going to get along great!!! :)

And a new school year begins on the 22nd and I'll be an RA for CogSciLab, and I'll only have classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and I'll be working Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays...which means I'll have Sundays and Mondays as my weekends!

I think I'm going to try to do my Jillian Michael's DVD tomorrow morning, but no promises! I'm on vacation so I might just wait to start when school starts back up! ;) I'll be packing a lot so that will be a workout in itself haha

Well, I'm pooped and so is Buddy (he's actually snoring while his head is resting on my arm hahaha we'll have to do more before bedtime runs i guess!!!

Almost Free!!!

Hello again!

I am another step closer to FINALLY enjoying my summer vacation! I will be going home Saturday night to spend time with my family :) I'll be back on Tuesday to work and start packing to move!!!

Today I took my Spanish final and I think it went pretty well! :) I just gotta take my online Clinical Psych final and then I will be done! Also...I got asked to stay on as an RA for CogSciLab!!! I'm pretty pumped about that still :) Check me out here: My name on the CogSciLab people page!
There's also a chance that I'll be working with Dr. Worthy in his marine mammal lab...I might get to grind up fishies and do isotopic readings...hooray!!! Hahaha
Although it's probably going to be a ton of work, I am SUPER excited for this next semester! I'll only have classes Tuesdays and Thursdays...the first time EVER!

My class schedule is:
Mammalogy from 11:30a-1:20p
Spanish II from 1:30p-2:45p
Tropical Ecology and Conservation from 3:00p-4:15p

I'm still making small steps before my giant leap into fall semester when I WILL keep a steady workout schedule, make A's and B's in all of my classes, and manage to contribute my excellence to the labs and conservation club!

I bought my first set of EcoTools by Alicia Silverstone today!

I also made spinach, mango, and mesquite-lime chicken for dinner! :) Had rotini and crab alfredo for lunch...om nom nom!

I'll be starting to pack once I get back...but I FINALLY found my DVD remote so I can do my Jillian Michael's 30-Day Shred! I'm super pumped!!! I actually signed up for her website membership too..it's a pretty great site! I think once I save all of the recipes and workouts I want I'll cancel the membership :-P

I'll keep you posted on how things go! :)

Wednesday, August 3, 2011

Ugh...FINALS!!!

So I finally got up off my booty and made myself a nice, wholesome meal instead of getting fast food, having cereal, or having restaurant leftovers! :)
Here it is:

I wish I could start reading Dolphin Diaries, but I PROMISED myself that it would be my vacation present to myself once I completely finish with Spanish and Clinical Psychology...so I've got ONE MORE DAY!!!
Buddy has been SO patient with me lately, that he is going to go to daycare tomorrow to swim and play and have fun all day!
I've got my Spanish final at 8:30am, then I'll be doing my clinical psych final online, and finally I will be going to CogSciLab for a meeting...that means I get to wear my new business clothes!!! ;)
Then I'll meet up with Amanda to sign the papers and make it official to start moving in! Buddy and Heidi are going to have a crazy fun time together!

Getting back on track a little bit at a time...it will be easier once I finally get to spend some time relaxing (...and packing) and I think a new setting will be just the thing I need to kick me into gear!

Tuesday, July 26, 2011

Kick in the Keister!!!

So...yesterday I got a call to take the Discovery Cove swim test!!! That was definitely an ego boost! This is the furthest I've ever gotten in the application process! Unfortunately...I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it :( I'll explain later...

Anyway, it was just the sort of thing I needed to hear to get me motivated again!!! And knowing that tomorrow is my last day of Organic Chemistry...EVER...I just can NOT wait to get it over with!
I think once I'm finally through with the class that has slowly sucked the life out of me over the past year and a half, it will be SUCH a relief :) I think after taking that class I will be able to enjoy any of the other classes that I have (maybe even physics 2...but we'll see!)

But I better get back to studying for my final; I will update again soon!

In general, food and exercise hasn't been the best lately (mainly due to so much studying...) but I see a light at the end of the tunnel!!! :) It'll just take some time...not that I actually HAVE time haha but I will soon!

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

Slowly but surely!

So the past few days have been kinda all over the place! I've had success and failure...but so far I'm still under my weekly calorie goal! Just been napping a lot still...but I'm slowly starting to wean myself off to get ready for the fall semester!
I also did Wii Zumba for 20 min on Monday, and I took Buddy for a 28 minute walk/jog tonight!
Trying to start off slow this time, because every time in the past I've gotten all gung-ho for the first 2 weeks and then if I start to slack off it's a downhill slope from there! So I'm taking it slow...I'll be moving soon too so packing and going up and down stairs will be enough of a work-out until I get back to school! Having classes only on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30-4:15 is going to be a bit of a change for me...I'll still have my online classes, but sheesh! It will take some getting used to haha but that gives me plenty of time to pencil in some good workouts!!! :)

As far as food has gone, I've been so-so...Dad ordered me enough pizza hut pasta to last me for days! So it's hard not splurging out on that, but I've done pretty good so far :) Kept my portions reasonable!
As far as fruit goes...I missed my fresh fruit SO much!!!

Taking my time, and doing things right!
Found this picture quote from StumbleUpon.com (Thank you Rose!!!)
I figure that sums it up pretty well!

Still on Vacation Mode...hahaha

So...getting back into the swing of things has been a little harder than I expected...definitely still have vacation brain (and so does Buddy!)

We haven't been able to take walks/jogs as much lately because Buddy hurt his paw when we were playing fetch in the tennis court...so that hasn't helped! It's been an easy excuse to take it easy because of that...

BUT...
I got my Fitness, Self, and Women's Health magazines and I am READY to get back to work! I've had enough down time the past week or so...no more couch potato for me, or Buddy!

I'm doing Wii Zumba tonight, and I just registered for Jillian Michael's free 2-week online program and will be getting 2 of her fitness DVD's in the mail soon.

LET'S GET BACK TO BUSINESS!!!
(When the fat pants start getting too tight and you've gained 6 pounds...that's when it's a wake-up call!)

Fell off the wagon BIG TIME!

Haha soo....after all of that preparing that I did for the cruise to look good in my bathing suit...I feel like all of that went to WASTE during the week that I spent with my family! Lol of course the all-you-can-eat food on the cruise was a HUGE temptation...I tried to be good, but I had absolutely NO willpower this past week haha
I took the stairs as much as possible and actually made it to the gym on the ship one day and rode the bike for 50 minutes! :) And I always feel like walking in heels is a big workout for me too since I practically never wear them!

Also went to Disney on Monday for the 4th, and did SOOO much walking there...I am still exhausted from this last week, so I'll probably end up taking it easy and finishing with all of my assignments that I missed during the past week of school :( I already have a test for Spanish tomorrow! So it's hardcore cramming tonight...but at least I got to practice a little bit while I was in Cozumel! "Donde esta delphines?!" Haha my favorite phrase :)

The cruise was absolutely amazing though! I definitely needed that little break...but coming back was a HUGE slap in the face from reality :(
Buddy did pretty well at PetsHotel! Was a bit of a setback for his separation anxiety...and taking 5 days off from training DEFINITELY shows hahaha! He did SOOOO good with my cousin Rachel though; I was very proud of him and I think he will make a FANTASTIC therapy dog someday soon!!! :)

Well, for the rest of this week we'll be taking it easy...but starting on Sunday it's back to the grind! Knockout Kickboxing at 6pm! WOOO!!!

Monday, June 13, 2011

Good Start to the Week! :)

Feeling good! Got my assignments done for Clinical Psych :)
Went to Yoga tonight again! Love this Monday night class, it's great! My shoulder didn't do too bad either!

Had some pretty good food today too! Pigged out on some tortilla chips and queso for lunch tho haha (Thanks for leaving those here Jesse!)

Overall, I think it's a pretty good start to the week! Let's keep it up!!! :)
Tomorrow I'll be taking Buddy on a morning walk/jog to see how we do with our battle wounds :-P hahaa

Taking a Break to Heal...

So, I ended up having a mole removed on Thursday from my back shoulder and it's kinda put a damper on the whole work-out schedule while it heals...
Didn't get to go to swim club on Thursday because I couldn't get it wet for 48 hours after the procedure, then on Friday I didn't want to go to spin class or yoga because it bled a lot during the night, and I didn't want to mess up the scabbing over process by stretching it out too much!
Buddy is also getting a little bit of a break from our walks/jogs, because he has a hotspot under his ear (right where his collar goes) so I don't want to irritate it too much by correcting him when he pulls on the leash...so we'll probably just keep going and playing fetch at the dog park :)

Saturday and Sunday were days off because Jesse was in town! We ended up going to the mall and seeing The Hangover and The Hangover II...AWESOME movies!!! I'm SO happy I finally saw them!
Kinda went overboard with getting spoiled to go out to eat...haha but didn't do tooooo bad! ;)

I'll probably end up going to yoga tonight to see how my back does; it's only been bleeding a little bit lately, so I think it's healing up very nicely! :) If tonight goes well, then maybe Buddy and I will go on a walk tomorrow morning!

Success! Followed by Failure...haha

So I did really well getting up at 7:10 today and taking Buddy for a 2.5 mile run in 34 min and burned 207 Cals!
Those were the stats from my pedometer ;)

So then we got home about 8:00, I had breakfast, got ready for school and was watching Fraiser on the couch before leaving for class that starts at 10...but the leaving never happened! I ended up falling asleep on the couch and I didn't wake up until 10:45!!! I was SO mad at myself! But I guess I'm making progress slowly but surely...tomorrow will be a super long day though :(
Trainer's meeting in the morning, class from 10-noon, then lab from 1-8:20...and I think this lab is going to be a long one... so poor Buddy will have a boring day in his crate...but I'll be sure to take him out to play tennis tonight :)

Ate really well again today! Tried to do the 3-4 hour intervals and I wish I could do that everyday!

CROW POSE ACCOMPLISHED!!!

So went to class today, came home and did homework, and then went to yoga tonight!!! It was awesome!
I FINALLY DID CROW POSE!!!!!! I was able to hold it for like 10 seconds, I was so pumped!

It was nice to relax and unwind and stretch after kickboxing yesterday haha

Meals were GREAT today too!
Honey Almond flax flakes cereal with raspberries for breakfast,
Veggie dog with potato bun, swiss cheese, and chipotle spread (with veggie straws on the side!),
And an open faced egg sandwich with swiss cheese, toast with nutella, and strawberries and raspberries with a teaspoon of sugar on top :)

FEELING AMAZING!!!

Getting Back into the Swing of Things!!!

So...this past week wasn't the best...haha definitely had a lot of rest and relaxation...I blame it on the holiday weekend!!! lol
But I finished the Cardio Kickstart program on Wii Active...so now it's time to really get serious!!!

Yesterday I ended up going to Knock Out-Kickboxing at the gym for the first time in AGES! And it TOTALLY kicked my ass...but it felt good! I'm sooo sore today, but not as sore as I would've been had I tried to jump right back into those crazy classes without any preparation!
I kinda got off the wagon as far as food goes last week...but yesterday was a good day and I'm still keeping up today!

Anyway...there's only 21 days left until the cruise...that's 3 weeks away!!!
I've only got 3 weeks to get tight and toned to look and feel sexy for the Bahamas! ;)

So here's the weekly plan:
Mondays: Yoga at 6:00pm
Tuesdays: Day off...too much going on! I'll probably just take Buddy for his daily run!
Wednesdays: If I can get out of organic lab early, then I'll be doing either 90 minute Yoga at 5:30pm or Zumba at 7:00pm
Thursdays: Swim club from 7-9pm
Fridays: Spinning at 8am
Saturdays: Day off/Buddy run!
Sundays: Kickboxing at 6:00pm

Got Sunday checked off all right!
Yoga tonight...then rest tomorrow!!! :)

COZUMEL, CANCUN, AND GRAND CAYMAN...HERE I COME!!!

Gotta get back on track!

Last week was kinda all over the place!
Kept up with the Wii Active and Wii Zumba!
Ate pretty healthy still! :)

Today I'm picking back up with the Wii Active and Zumba! Tomorrow I'll squeeze in Wii Active in the morning, Wednesday will be a break, Thursday will be swim club, and Friday back to the Wii Active! I'm almost done with the 3-week cardio kick-start program! :)

Today's meals were:
Breakfast with mom and dad! They drove up from Tampa to spend a little bit of Memorial Day with me :) So breakfast was a bit of a splurge ;)
Lunch was leftover chicken stir fry and quinoa
Dinner was orange-maple glazed scallops with orzo, spinach, and strawberries...total deliciousness!!! :)

Keepin' it going!

So this weekend, Jesse and I ran in the Winter's Family Fun Fest 5K in Clearwater Beach! It was SO awesome!!! On the first mile of the race we saw wild dolphins! :-D SO COOL!!!
We finished the race in 30 minutes...pretty damn good considering it was our first 5K together and we had a 10-minute mile time!!! We even walked part of the way so we did freaking awesome!

Sunday was a day of rest :)

Yesterday I did the Wii Active for 30 minutes and the exercises are getting more intense! I love it though! It's a heck of a lot cheaper than a personal trainer ;)

I haven't been waking up as early the past few days because I've been staying up later, but gotta get back on track with that! I feel like I don't have enough time in the day anymore :(

Today I will do the Wii active again, and maybe some Zumba! ;) But tomorrow is the long day...class and orgo lab...so basically I'm gone from 10am-8:30pm...UGH! Poor Buddy :( Wednesdays are going to be no fun for him...OR me, for that matter...

Swim Day for Buds and I!!!

So this morning I took Buddy to day care and he loved it as always! (Of course!) This was his first 10 hour day there, and I think it DEFINITELY pooped him out!!! So there was his work out for the day :)
Then I went to class, went to the lab, and came back home to take a short nap before picking Buddy up! Then it was my turn to go swimming!!! 90 minutes of pure torture haha I always feel so out of shape when I go to Swim Club practices!!! But I think I'll get there slowly but surely :)

I've been INSPIRED!!! There was an article in Fitness magazine...and the title was: "You CAN Be a Tri-Athlete!"
And now...? I kinda wanna start training for a triathlon! They made it sound a lot easier than I thought it would be and I never knew there were short distance triathlons!!! Definitely thinking I can do that ;)
And swim club is a great start for that!!!

As for my meals today? FABULOUS!!!
Breakfast: Two pieces of toast one with peanut butter and mashed banana the other with Nutella and mashed banana...DELICIOUSNESS!!!
Lunch: Sugar snap peas, Special K Strawberry crisps, and Leftover bowtie pasta with marinara sauce
Dinner: Leftover sauteed veggies (and fruits from what I learned in Ethnobotany today!) from yesterday, and quinoa with flaxseed

Dessert: English muffin topped with peanut butter, pears, honey, and cinnamon!

More Success!

Yesterday and today were great! :)

Woke up at 8am yesterday, took Buddy on a 15 min walk, fed him, did Wii Active for 25 minutes, ate breakfast, showered, and made it to class RIGHT on time at 10!

Today I woke up at 7:45, took Buddy on a 30 minute walk/jog, watched and episode of Spongebob and had breakfast, then went to class again!

Food choices? VERY good the past few days!
Here's what I had today:
Breakfast: ham, egg, & cheese sandwich on an english muffin
Lunch: peanut butter, banana, strawberry, and jam sandwich
Dinner: bowtie pasta with sauteed veggies

Feeling good about keeping on track so far!!!
Buddy's going to daycare tomorrow and I have my first swim club meeting of the summer!

Summer, Summer, Summer!!!

Well here we go!
The start to another semester...and it's going to be busier than EVER!!!
I am getting all of my class information organized and scheduled, and then it's time to get in gear!!!

This is going to be the general outline for my workout schedule:
Mondays: Walking Buddy (45 min) and Wii Active 2 (25 min)
Tuesdays: Walking/Jogging with Buddy (30 min) and Wii Zumba (20 min)
Wednesdays: Walking Buddy (45 min) and Wii Active 2 (25 min)
Thursdays: Walking Buddy (30 min) and Swim Club (2 Hours)
Fridays: 8am Spinning or 10:30 am 90 minute Yoga
Saturdays: Wii Active 2
Sundays: Something fun! Volleyball perhaps??

Trying to turn myself into a morning person, so a lot of these are going to ease me into my 8am classes for summer B!
I guess we'll see how that goes...haha for those of you who know me, I am NOT the greatest morning person...but that's all about to change!!!

I've got 41 days until the cruise...GOTTA GET CRACKING!!!

HERE WE GO!
These are the breakfast and lunch I decided to go with today :) DELICIOUS!!!

Wii + Netflix = AWESOMENESS!!!

I did Wii Active 2 again yesterday: 3 Week Cardio Program, Day 2...LOVE it!!! It's just the start I need to get back on track for strength training...fun and not too intense! Trying to build up endurance and muscle again slowly :) Plus, it's still break for the gym, so I can't go to any of the group-ex classes! It's definitely saving me gas money though!

I did the Wii Active morning "Limber-up" routine today! A short 12 min program of warm-up/cool-down exercises; it was a nice morning start! After the semi-hectic day today I ended up doing "Candlelight Yoga" after work tonight and it was AWESOME! I found all of these great work-out DVDs that you can watch instantly on Netflix...I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!! There's so many instant DVDs on there, it's so worth it for the $8/month!!! Plus I can reward myself by watching one of my favorite TV shows afterwards ;)

It's gonna be a good summer!!!
Is it sad that I kinda already miss school too? Yikes...what's wrong with me!?

Wiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!

Took Buddy on a walk today and to the dog park; we played fetch until the rain clouds started moving in...then we came back home!
After I fed him, I took advantage of his crate time to do some Wii Active and Zumba! :) So much fun! I really like these new games!!!
I'm excited for the new gym schedule to come out for when Summer A begins!

Buddy is still worn out from fetch...he's snoring on his bed right now :-P SO CUTE!!!

Wii Zumba!!!

So I did my first "class" of Wii Zumba!!!
It was AWESOME! I feel so dorky doing it, so I'm glad it's not in a real class setting lol I'd look like a fool!
But I'm hoping to get better so I can start actually going to the classes on campus and not feel completely lost!!! But I still might try one anyway...I caught on to the steps pretty quick!

Getting back on track!!!

Wow...it has been way too long since I've blogged!!!
But...it's also been way too long since I worked out too!

Finals week was brutal...but ended up passing all of my classes! I really don't like phrasing it that way; but this was a really rough semester.
As for this summer...it's time to get back in gear! I'm already starting to feel back to my old self, and I'm excited to get into a new routine!

There's a lot going on for this summer...3 classes, working 20 hours a week, being an RA for CogSciLab, (hopefully!) getting back to volunteering at Freedom Ride, and still managing to make time for fun!!! :)

I also need to make time to work-out and get in shape for the cruise at the end of June! Not doing too well so far...lol but I'm enjoying my time off right now! I've got a lot of new tools to help me out: 3 new Wii games (NFL Training Camp, EA Sports Active 2, and ZUMBA!), the fitness videos on Netflix, and the gym on campus and at the apartment complex! The pool is going to be a very important tool for me this summer as well :)

So hopefully I'll get back in gear tomorrow before work and then will finish out the week strong!

Here's to a new semester and a new summer!
:)

I love me some Monday!!!

Things didn't necessarily go according to plan today...but they still went well!
Ended up not going to spin class or yoga and took Buddy on TWO walk/jogs today along with 30 minutes of WiiFit!!! :)
Here's the final stats below:
My pedometer: Today covered 3.3 mi in 64 min and burned 251 Cals
My WiiFit: 34 minutes and burned 90 calories
As for tomorrow...not sure what I'll be able to squeeze in...I've got class in the morning, CogSciLab from 11-3, and then work from 5-9...so maybe I can fit some fun WiiFit time in there!

Had some AWESOME meals today too!!!
Breakfast: Egg White, Spinach, and Feta Wrap with Tazo "Awake" tea
Lunch: Turkey Bacon, Spinach, and Tomato on Whole Wheat bread
Dinner: My homemade vegetarian chili over quinoa! (My first experience with quinoa...and I LOVE it!!!)
 It is pictured below :)

Finals are coming up too...that's gonna put a damper on work-out time...but as long as I try to time-manage better things might go all right! :)

Sunday Sunday SUNDAY!!!

Here are the stats from this morning:
1.4 mi in 28 min and burned 99 Cals

It was nice to be able to sleep in AND have time to take Buddy on a walk before work :)
Spent a lot of time last night dancing and cleaning around my room haha still going tonight by finishing the laundry! So that probably burned off some good calories ;) So here is my wonderful dinner that I cooked tonight! I'm definitely feeling much better these days!

Here's my upcoming plan for the week:
Monday-Hot Yoga
Tuesday-Swimming!
Wednesday-Walk/Jog with Buddy
Thursday-Early Burn Spin!
Friday-WiiFit!
Saturday-Walk Buds to the farmer's market in the morning

Here's to hoping that everything goes according to plan!
:)

Rain...then sunshine...more rain, and more sunshine!!!

The weather has been on and off lately...but buddy and I are keeping pretty consistent so far! On Monday our stats were: 1.9 miles in 26 min with 154 cals burned
Yesterday we took the day off...lots of studying and first day of my RA position!
Today our stats were: 3.3 miles in 44 min with 275 cals burned!!!

Signed up for the Self Magazine Drop 10 challenge and it's goig pretty well so far! :)

Buddy definitely enjoyed our run/walk today! He met his first crossing guard; Buds DEFINITELY wasn't a fan of the big handheld stop sign...lol but warmed up to it after a bit! :)

What a marvelous day!

After some very good news today as far as grades go, Buddy and I got to enjoy the weather (before the rain hits!) and went on a walk!

Here are the stats from my pedometer on my iPod:
My pedometer: Today covered 2.3 mi in 34 min and burned 203 Cals

Sweet!!! We started practicing "Heel" again, and  he's making very good progress! Especially when we cross intersections :) Safety first! And he even sat in "Place" for the first time today!!! I was SO excited! I've never been able to get him to sit down on a walk before! I definitely threw him a party for that one!

Today is a busy day: have my research assistant interview, then conservation club officer meeting, then standing in line to get my Universal Knight ticket, then finish reading for Evolutionary Biology, and FINALLY going to Hatha Yoga tonight :)

This week has been so great!!!

Spinning!

There wasn't much success yesterday since the weather was horrible, neither buds or I wanted to go outside! Haha
But today is a different story! The weather is beautiful! I already attended spin class on campus (I'm gonna be SO sore tomorrow!) and buddy and I are gonna go on a long walk when I get home tonight!!!
Getting back in the swing of things this week and I'm feeling AMAZING!!!
:)

HOT YOGA!!!

So, I didn't work out with Buddy today besides our normal short walks for his potty breaks...but I did make it to Hot Yoga tonight on campus!
It was 75 minutes of intense poses...even though it wasn't very hot in the room!
My hips and hamstrings seem to be my tightest muscles...so I'll be trying to stretch those out more often!

I have a feeling that I might be a little sore tomorrow though...hahaha
Buddy's going to the groomer tomorrow while I run some errands, so we may take a day off since he'll be having a spa day maybe I'll do an at-home spa day myself!!! :)
